More than £1.3 million was pumped into the local economy by Pembrokeshire Fish Week last year. Recent figures show the direct income of Fish Week 2011 totalled £1,314,882.
The annual festival, which celebrates the rich variety of fresh local fish and seafood, the county’s coastline and maritime heritage, is organised by Pembrokeshire County Council.
Kate Morgan, the Council’s food development manager, said Fish Week attracted some 25,000 visitors last year.
“More than a third visited from outside West Wales, with approximately 4,000 travelling from outside Wales,” she said.
“This shows that Pembrokeshire Fish Week is a valuable asset in attracting visitors to the County in the quieter ‘shoulder’ season between Whitsun and the summer holidays.”
Fish Week also provided a boost for participating businesses, with nearly two-thirds reporting more customers compared to an average week in June.
Fish Week boosts Pembrokeshire economy said Kate.
Voted number one in VisitBritain.com’s top 10 food festivals, Pembrokeshire Fish Week will be held this year between June 23rd and July 1st. The fishy festival has some 250 events from seashore foraging to guided beach walks, family fishing days, cookery workshops, and much more. (more…)
